i>"Just about the time you think you can make both ends meet,
somebody moves the ends"
Pansy Penner, Readers Digest
Well, we can't stop the ends from moving but we can help you
make them meet.
How?
With the help of a little appliance invented in 1971.
You just plug it in, turn it on, and come back in about 10
hours. You will have saved both time and money.
What am I talking about?
The
Crock Pot
.
Put your food in, turn it on and dinner is ready 8 to 10 hours
later - a fantastic time ...

There's more to Chinese cuisine than meets the taste buds. There
is also what meets the eye, the ear and the imagination. Chinese
culture demands attention to the entire presentation of a meal,
and that includes the blend of flavors, the subtlety of the
spicing, how appealing the colors and arrangement of the food is
and how well it plays on the imagination of the diner. This is a
concept that is as foreign to most Westerners as an appreciation
for the nuance of a single brushstroke in an ...

Let them eat cake.
So said Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, upon being told that
the peasants were rioting in the streets because they had no
bread. It has been cited for over two centuries as an indictment
of the arrogance of the aristocracy - but in reality, the young
queen may simply not have understood why, lacking bread, a
person would not turn to cake. Such was the separation between
the tables of the privileged and those of the poor.
Nowhere was that separation so evident, though, than ...

I think when I ask you this question: "what can be better than homemade bread?" you will probably answer "nothing." It is a fact; I think that we all agree that the smell of freshly baked bread cannot be surpassed.
Many of our grannies still make tasty breads and buns the old fashioned way. They spend hour kneading and letting the dough rise until it is just right. I have to admit a rather like the smell of the yeast as it is doing its work in the dough, but it really is very hard work.
Of ...

Ever wonder how this favorite dessert and ingredient for baked
goods came about? What about the famous chocolate chip? Our love
of chocolate started back in 1828 when a dutch chemist Johannes
Van Houten came up with a way of separating the fat (cocoa
butter) from the ground cocoa beans. This provided cocoa powder
which tasted a lot better than the whole bean. Soon enough
people were coming up with ways to mix the powder with milk and
make chocolate bars and the first bar (swiss of course) was ...

First, let's start with a really quick history. Coffee was first
decaffeinated by Ludwig Roselius, a German coffee merchant, in
1905 after he received a coffee shipment that had gotten soaked
during a storm at sea. He experimented with the brine-soaked
coffee, and found out that benzene could be used as solvent to
bond with the caffeine. Since caffeine is water-soluble at
temperatures above 175°, he could boil the solution to separate
the caffeine from the coffee. With his process, the coffee ...
